Here is the Sonic adventure video compilation “Stunt Anthem”

Not only is the Sonic one adventurous little car, but it’s also safe!  The 2012 Chevy Sonic has been given the distinct honor of a 5-star safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  The Sonic garnered the overall 5-Star safety rating following evaluations in rollover resistance, and side/frontal crash, including the “pole test” in which the vehicle was driven into a poll or tree at 32 km/h.

These concept vehicles were developed from market research and in-depth discussions with young consumers throughout the country and were then engineered by a team of young designers.They include a rear-wheel-drive boxy coupe representing “functional muscle” and a front-wheel-drive sporty coupe described as “affordable exotic.”

The “functional muscle” car is the Chevrolet Code 130R Concept. It features beefy fender flares, a tuned-up direct injection 1.4L turbocharge 4-cylinder engine producing 150hp and 148lbs/torque. It also has the eAssist electric assist system that supplements engine power, performs regenerative braking and allows for engine auto start/stop.  The wheels are 20″, the engine is 6-speed automatic or manual and Chevrolet thinks it should get 40 mpg on the hwy.

Then there is the “affordable exotic” car, the Chevrolet Tru 140S Concept. It’s a sleek three-door hatchback, front-wheel-drive sporty coupe with an engine producing 150hp and the eAssist electric assist system also in the Code 130R. The wheels are 21″, the engine is 6-speed automatic or manual and Chevrolet thinks it should get 40 mpg on the hwy as well.

“To capture the hearts of the [Millennial Generation], Chevy is getting back to the core of our brand: affordability, fun, optimism, and staying forward-looking. But we aren’t doing it alone,” said McFarland. “We are harnessing the power of the voice of this group and co-creating the future.”

1. Be prepared (that’s always #1 isn’t it?!) – keep a blanket, boots, gloves and a flashlight in your vehicle. A bag of kitty litter is a good idea as well, it could help you if your tires are spinning.
2. Keep your fuel tank above half full, this prevents fuel line freeze-ups when things get really cold.
3. Nothing beats a set of maintained wipers in a blizzard or sleet storm, and make sure your washer fluid is topped up for those messier drives.
4. Take your vehicle to your service technician and have them look at your battery & coolant system. Older batteries & weak antifreeze might not protect as well in cold weather & can actually cause damage to your vehicle when it’s not running.
5. Understand how your breaking system works. If they’re anti-lock brakes don’t pump them, instead press firmly on the brake pedal and let the system do what it was designed to do, namely, stop your vehicle.
6. Be sure to have proper winter tires and keep them properly inflated.
7. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid situations where you may have to break suddenly on a slick surface.
8. If you really aren’t very comfortable driving during the winter, you might be interested in taking an advanced driving course that teaches emergency driving skills… give yourself the confidence you need to get to your destination safely.
