Camaro wasn’t built in a generation. Each innovation has been the starting point for the next. Every milestone a green light for another. Generation Six is a culmination of everything before it. The fittest arrived, and this is its journey. – Chevrolet Camaro 50th Anniversary site
It’s hard to believe that the Chevrolet Camaro is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year! First designed and manufactured under the code-name Panther, Chevrolet initially released the 1967 Camaro model as a competitor against the Ford Mustang. Taking on the Mustang, the 1967 model Camaro achieved 220,906 sales within it’s first year! In fact, when asked the meaning of the name Camaro, it is reported that many Chevrolet said “it was a small, vicious animal that ate Mustangs.”
Over the generations, the Chevrolet Camaro has become a staple in the homes of sports car fanatics and Chevrolet lovers alike. While there have been distinct changes since the sixties, the Chevrolet Camaro has gotten better with age and has become the definition of performance and legendary.
Celebrate the Camaro by taking a look back at where we came from and taking the opportunity to see where we are headed. Trust us, we’re not stopping at legendary.
