How to Get Stains Out of Your Chevrolet

If you or one of your regular car passengers is a known “spiller”, then I’ll bet you probably have a stain or two on the cloth seats in your Chevrolet. I will freely admit I have several.

Whether it’s coffee, greasy food, or something from one of the kids, stains are definitely not desirable in our vehicles. While some of you may have the luxury of having your seats professionally steamed and cleaned, there are some home remedies we can use to try and get these stains out on our own.

For starters, you should vacuum out the seats regardless of the origin of the stain. Getting the dirt out of the way will help since dirt tends to trap stains. Let’s take a look a few of the most common stains and how to clean them up.

Greasy Food Stains:
To clean up a stain from greasy food, mix a teaspoon of Dawn, or any other dish-washing soap,  with a cup of warm water. Grab a clean cloth, dip it into the mixture, and then blot the stain. After that, take a second cloth,  dip it into a bucket of clean water, and blot away the soap mixture. You may have to repeat this several times.

Coffee Spills:
The best way to get a coffee stain out is to saturate it with clean cool water. Let the water dry completely, the soak the remaining stain with glass cleaner. Leave it alone for about five minutes, then blot the cleaner dry with a clean white cloth.

Ink Stains:
Remove an ink stain from a car’s upholstery by dipping a clean white cloth into rubbing alcohol. Blot the cloth onto the stain several times. As the ink transfers to the cloth, dampen another area of the cloth with alcohol and continue blotting. Do not rub the stain with the cloth, as this will only grind it in more.

Gasoline Stains:
Mix a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and a teaspoon of vinegar into a quart of warm water to clean up a gasoline stain. Dab the mixture onto the stain and allow it to air dry. It may take several applications to remove the stain.

These methods can also work on other types of stains. As with most stain-removing cleaners, you should test it out on a small section first. So any of you with stains out there, give these methods a try and get your Chevy looking amazing again.
